Our farm is a “u-pick” farm. We are as open as the berries are ready. We sell our berries by the bucket.
If you’ve never picked your own berries before, well… you’re in for a sweet treat!
The process is pretty simple. Lucas Ridge farms is open to the public. Blueberries should be ripe and ready from late June through July.
Once you arrive, we will provide you with a container and send you into the fields to pick the most ripe and ready to pick berries, and then you get to harvesting. By hand!
We provide you with lined bucket containers. Fill up your container with as many berries as you like, and then pay by the pound. If you choose to bring your own containers for picking, we will weigh your berries before sending you on your way.
1 gallon bucket (approximately 5 lbs of blueberries)
2 gallon bucket (approximately 10 lbs of blueberries.) *Pre-picked berries may be available.
We accept cash, debit, or credit card payment.
A fully ripe blueberry will be uniform in color and should easily come loose from the plant. A reddish ring around the "scar" (indentation where the fruit is attached to the stem) also indicates that the berry is not ripe.
It is best to pick blueberries by gently rolling each one from the cluster with the thumb into the palm of the hand. When picking is done this way, the berries that aren't ripe will not come loose.
After harvesting, cool blueberries as quickly as possible to about 35°F. Harvest at weekly intervals.
When you drive up to the farm we have a small parking area near our pay station. Check in at the stand when you arrive.
We will show you what area to pick based on fruit readiness and availability. Many times the best berries are hiding under the leaves.
We have a pay station, near the entrance at our barn.
Wear your walking shoes. Be prepared for uneven walking surfaces. Wear a hat to cover your neck and face. Don't forget your sunscreen! Oregon's weather is so unpredictable, especially early June. If it rains, wear your boots for muddy fields.
Pack a lunch, the kids, and a picnic blanket, and enjoy a day at the farm that offers beautiful views as you drop those berries in your bucket.
We love dogs, however due to the working nature of our farm, we ask that you leave your pets at home. No pets are allowed on the blueberry fields.
Keep the fruit cool. Plan ahead to freeze, can, or make jam from the excess. Make room in the freezer before you leave. Be sure to wash your berries.
